Press Release Date: September 4, 2002    || Archived October 7, 2002
CHICAGO, IL – The Illinois State Police (ISP) today announced plans for high visibility patrols and concentrated enforcement details along I-57 and other major routes during the Chicago Bears' 2002 National Football League season. All Bears' home games will be played at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, increasing the volume of traffic along the routes to Champaign on game days. The Bears' first regular season home game is this Sunday, September 8.

ISP officers will focus enforcement efforts on speeding, aggressive driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol violations, in addition to conducting roadside safety checks. Motorists are urged to follow these safety tips:

Make sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up. Designate a sober driver if motorists plan to consume alcoholic beverages. Consider alternate modes of travel to home games, such as Amtrak or charter services. Make sure vehicles are in good working condition.

In the event of an emergency, motorists may contact the nearest ISP headquarters, including:

District Chicago (847) 294-4400 District 5 (Joliet) (815) 726-6377 District 6 (Pontiac) (815) 444-1500 Communications Center (Springfield) (217) 786-6677 District 10 (Pesotum) (217) 265-0050 District 21 (Ashkum) (815) 698-2332

ISP wants motorists to have a winning season on Illinois roads this year. Don't drink and drive, and always buckle-up!
