Father’s Unyielding Requests for Help Solves Case

 The Following is Being Released by the Illinois State Police

East Moline, IL – The Illinois State Police and Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities announce today the arrest of Maria E. Romero, 41, Rockford, IL in the case of the Emilio Perez fatal hit-and-run.

After receiving a tip from Crime Stoppers, Illinois State Police Investigators initiated contact with Romero. Evidence and statements were obtained through the investigation leading to charges filed in Rock Island County for: Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving a Death (Class 4 Felony) and Failure to Report an Accident Causing a Death (Class 1 Felony). Romero was placed under arrest and taken to Winnebago County Jail on 09-02-14 at 7:30 p.m. Bond was set at $250,000 (10% applied).

A 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was removed from Romero’s residence for processing by Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.
