Press Release Date: June 3, 2014    || Archived February 4, 2016

2014 National Road Check Enforcement Period to Last 3 Days

Chicago -- Illinois State Police (ISP), in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Transportation, will take part in a nationwide safety program to conduct commercial motor vehicle enforcement checks for unsafe trucks and rogue drivers in Cook, Will, St. Clair and Madison counties.

The enforcement operation is scheduled for three days from June 3-5, 2014. ISP Truck Inspectors will check for mechanical deficiencies, unlicensed drivers, logbook violations, and overweight trucks and trailers.

“The careless operation of commercial motor vehicle drivers is one the greatest dangers on Illinois roadways,” said Colonel Mike Zerbonia. “Unqualified and fatigued drivers are responsible for numerous tragic fatalities, including public safety workers and our own troopers.  This important safety detail serves as a reminder of our collective efforts to raise awareness and ISP’s commitment to saving lives,” he stressed.

The 2014 National Road Check Enforcement program is the largest nationwide joint enforcement effort of its kind. ISP will focus its enforcement strategies in the Chicago and Collinsville areas with emphasis on commercial drivers, motor coaches, truck-tractor semi-trailers, and overall maintenance of commercial vehicles.
