Stolen Vehicles and Fine China Recovered
Granite City, IL – Law enforcement officials announced they uncovered a vehicle theft ring operating out of a scrap yard in southern Illinois. The illegal operation was uncovered following an extensive surveillance of a local business, Scrap Solutions, located at 5567 Dial Drive.
The collaborative investigation that lead to the discovery included agents from the Illinois State Police Metro East Auto Theft Task Force (MEATTF), St. Louis City Police Anti-Crime Unit, St. Louis County Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Granite City Police Department, and officials from Madison County Environmental Enforcement and Madison County Zoning.
Based on information collected during the investigation, officers conducted a traffic stop of a truck tractor semi-trailer that was observed leaving Scrap Solutions and discovered two stolen vehicles inside the trailer. On Thursday, February 7, agents executed a search warrant at Scrap Solutions and recovered three additional stolen vehicles - a 1997 Cadillac, a 2000 Lexus and a 2000 Strick Semi-trailer. A load of fine tableware china, valued at approximately $300,000, was also recovered.
No arrests have been made in connection with the illegal operation and the investigation remains on-going.
“The combined effort and outstanding police work of the agencies involved in this operation is yet another example of what can be accomplished when we pool our resources,” said ISP Director Hiram Grau. “When criminal enterprises that finance these illegal operations are dismantled, we keep businesses, communities and innocent victims safe,” added Grau.
MEATTF is an auto theft task force that operates in Madison and St. Clair County by combining the resources of the Illinois State Police and other area law enforcement agencies.
