SPRINGFIELD, IL –The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced today participation in three nationwide efforts to reduce highway crashes and fatalities during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday period: Operation ABC (America Buckles Up Children) Mobilization, November 24 - 30, Click It or Ticket Campaign, November 25 - December 8, and Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), November 27 - December 1.
“The goal of these multi agency campaigns is to reduce traffic violations, increase seat belt compliance, and prevent drunk driving by increasing police visibility and enforcement,” said ISP Director Sam W. Nolen. “In addition to regular patrol duties, officers will be assigned to various details including roadside safety and airspeed checks, aggressive driving patrols, and lidar speed details.”
Last year 18 persons lost their lives as a result of 18 fatal crashes over the five-day holiday period.
