Operation Ryan’s Hope Aims to Decrease Criminal Activity

Chicago – Illinois State Police (ISP) made nearly two dozen arrests and wrote more than 430 citations during a recent detail aimed at reducing criminal activity on Chicago area expressways. 

Troopers from two ISP districts participated in Operation Ryan’s Hope from 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, until 5:00 a.m. Sunday, February 25.

“We will continue to utilize Ryan’s Hope operations as part of the ongoing initiatives in our dedicated efforts to keep our expressways safe,” stated Director Leo P. Schmitz.  “The safety of the public on Illinois’ expressways is paramount,” he concluded.

Troopers logged the following enforcement activity during the 34-hour detail:

One felony arrest was for Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Habitual Criminal, and Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding.  The other felony arrest was for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. 

The detail is called “Operations Ryan’s Hope” because it focuses specifically on reducing criminal activity on the Dan Ryan and Eisenhower Expressways.
