Illinois State Police announce addition of K-9 Xena

The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced today the addition of its newest member to the Canine Section, Xena. The dog, a Labrador retriever mixed with German shorthair pointer, was adopted from the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County and joins 31 other canines assigned to the Section as full-service and narcotics-only dogs.

Governor Quinn Announces Illinois Sets Historic Record for Fewest Motor Vehicle Fatalities in 88 years

Governor Pat Quinn, along with Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Jonathon E. Monken, today announced that 2009 was the safest year on Illinois roadways in 88 years as traffic fatality numbers dropped below 1,000. Illinois now joins a small, elite group of states who have experienced less than 1,000 highway fatalities in a calendar year. During 2009, more than 100 fewer people were killed on Illinois highways than in 2008, while safety belt usage exceeded 91 percent.

Illinois State Police, IDOT, and Illinois law enforcement agencies increase traffic enforcement in life-saving end-of-the-year push

Operation Save 100, the big, end-of-the-year push to lead Illinois to its lowest number of motor vehicle deaths since early last century began November 13 and continues through the remainder of 2009. The Illinois State Police, IDOT, and nearly 300 law enforcement agencies across the state announced today. The announcement came during nighttime safety belt enforcement zones that occurred simultaneously in eight cities around the state. It is a widespread effort to save lives on Illinois roads at a time of year that tragically can be one of the most dangerous times of year.

Illinois Transportation Officials and ISP Announce Operation Save 100 Kickoff

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) alongside Illinois State Police (ISP) today announced an all out Operation Save 100 campaign aimed for Illinois to have at least 100 less fatalities on its roadways this year as compared to last year. If successful, Illinois will have set an historic record by experiencing the fewest motor vehicle fatalities since 1921.

Illinois State Police awarded U. S. Department of Justice grant to reduce DNA backlog

Director Jonathon Monken announced today the Illinois State Police (ISP) has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the U. S. Department of Justice to reduce the current DNA backlog. The funding will provide for overtime compensation to employees directly engaged in the handling, screening, and analysis of DNA forensic evidence, and to purchase DNA analytical supplies within the ISP forensic science laboratory system.

National criminal history record information available for authorized Illinois organizations

The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced today implementation of the National Child Protection Act (NCPA) which ensures the safety and well-being of children and other vulnerable individuals through criminal background checks. The federal NCPA, as amended by the Volunteers for Children’s Act (VCA), encourages states to authorize fingerprint-based national criminal history record information background checks of individuals having unsupervised access to children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
